After a year of hard work at the Law Magnet’s very own SkillsUSA Chapter 2392, operations are hardly winding down. Internally, the newly elected board is planning the upcoming senior banquet and brainstorming potential fundraisers for the upcoming year’s expenses. Meanwhile, the SkillsUSA Texas state champions in Opening and Closing Ceremony and Prepared Speech are practicing for their national competitions in Atlanta, Georgia, which will run from June 1st through 5th.

The Law Magnet enjoyed many wins at the recent SkillsUSA Texas State Leadership and Skills Conference. The veteran Opening and Closing Ceremony team, which includes seniors Kirby Aguirre, Andrea Calderon, Madelyn Cindo, Sophia Reyes, and Kimberly Rodriguez, and juniors Katherine Hernandez and Valeria Villareal, took home the gold for the second year in a row. They were trained by senior Nancy Gomez, who was a member of the state champion team last year as well.

Their victory marks a special milestone for the chapter; never before has a Law Magnet team won the  Opening and Closing Ceremony state competition two years in a row.

In Prepared Speech, Adriana Bautista won first place, becoming the first person in Townview history to earn gold in the competition at the state level.

Because only the first place winners at the state level advance to the national competition, these champions have earned the coveted position of representing Texas alongside competitors from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the Virgin Islands. Though these wins were the culmination of endless training over the past several months, the fight isn’t over—the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference is rapidly approaching in just a few weeks, pushing these winners to continue perfecting their crafts.

Additionally, the veteran Emblem Ceremony team, which includes seniors Esmeralda Loredo and Tais Funes and junior Allan Zamarripa, earned silver for the second year in a row, maintaining a top rank in displaying memorization and synchronization skills.

Besides the victories in the competition room, members excelled in demonstrating their knowledge through technical tests. Kimberly Hernandez Lazo won gold for her knowledge of Customer Service. Julio Escobedo and Ulises Medina earned silver medals for their knowledge of Felony Traffic Stop. Lastly, Chan Nop, Jacklyn Parada, and Cinthya Vega earned silver for their knowledge of Crime Scene Investigation. Continuing the theme of firsts, in 2026, the Law Magnet enjoyed the most medals for technical tests in the chapter’s history.

Moreover, juniors Estefania Gutierrez and Ulises Medina earned a “Superior” rating for their Crime Scene Model. Their simulated crime scene depicts a chicken-factory-turned-drug-trafficking-front, complete with a backstory, evidence pictures, and a visual timeline of the process of crafting the model. They were graded based on the quality of their model and the binder that documents their process and understanding of crime scenes, as well as an interview that gives a deeper understanding of their project.

Additionally, the newly elected board is planning the upcoming senior banquet, a yearly tradition that celebrates the contributions of the chapter’s seniors. The evening is filled with fun, food, and sentimental moments as the Law Magnet’s SkillsUSA seniors say goodbye to the chapter. Additionally, the eight new board members officially receive their individual positions at the banquet, marking the beginning of their duty to lead the chapter to excellence throughout the next year.

“The new team is going to be amazing. We’ve prepared for these roles for a long time, and we’re ready to make a great upcoming year for our members,” said junior Katherine Hernandez, a member of the new board.

Mr. Jennings, who teaches criminal justice and serves as the Law Magnet SkillsUSA sponsor, expressed pride at the accomplishments of the chapter.

“I can’t believe how far these kids have come. Seeing them grow into stronger speakers, more responsible students, and future leaders has been the joy of my life. I’m excited to see where their skills take them.”

As the year comes to a close, the Law Magnet continues to uphold SkillsUSA’s values of education, service, and hard work. As the national conference and new school year rapidly approaches, the chapter’s members will continue working hard to show off their skills and make the Law Magnet proud.
