As the leaves shift back to green and the flickers of optimism start to spark within each student, the seeds of summer are sowed into existence. The weather relinquishes its slight chill and accepts warmth, sometimes excessively. That time of year has come, and we are met with the pervasive question: what’s “in” this summer? Well, the fashion is being forecasted as we speak, but here are a few pointers on what to wear this summer for optimal Instagram-abillity.

Halter tops

Yes, those strappy numbers are making a splash. The iconic design is known for its fabulous displays of one’s figure. Although it may not fly in a school setting, the summer is the perfect time to show off that silhouette away from the constriction of a dress code. The halter top features a neckline of two straps that meet at the back of the neck, and they are especially used in party settings and warm months. This summer, pair your most glamorous halter top with a skirt, mini or midi, for an elegant yet beautiful figure, or a pair of jeans or slacks for a sleek silhouette.

Denim Skirts

From its early symbolism of freedom as a response to female oppression, the denim skirt has been a closet staple for decades. Although the denim skirt is famously versatile, it is especially seen during the summer as the heat allows for little fabric—particularly heavy denim—to envelop the skin. Denim skirts can be worn short—in Paris Hilton’s own words, “skirts should be the size of a belt”—or mid-length and modest. They may be embellished with embroidery or woven with lace, but the fact remains that the denim skirt is a classic of summer fashion. If unsure of what footwear to don with a denim skirt, look no further than a knee-high boot for some added edge, Mary Janes for an air of innocence, tennis shoes for a comfortably-stylish look, or even ballet flats for some 2010s nostalgia.

Clogs

Hear us out: clogs are making a comeback. Clogs currently exist in many iterations across fashion, from the controversial Birkenstocks to wooden clogs fit for a hippie. Clogs allow for a laid-back appearance that might incite admiration or aversion, but which remains effortlessly chic and fun. This summer, pair your clogs with wide-leg jeans to flow into the sunlight, or comfortable shorts that scream “carefree and proud.” Whichever path you take, never discount the stylish power of a well-chosen pair of clogs.

Babydoll Tops

The babydoll top—a constantly cute look. “Babydoll” is a style which is often used in tops and dresses where the item lacks a waist. Instead, a line beneath the bust separates the tighter upper half and the loose, flowing lower half of the garment. The babydoll top is known for being adorable across its many forms, from dresses to skirts. The style is versatile and can be worn during any time of the year, but the summer is where the babydoll top really shines. This summer, pair your most precious babydoll top with a denim skirt for a photoshoot in a field of daisies, or jeans for a comfortable-yet-cute outfit for a fun day with friends.

Although we can’t cram our backpacks into the back of some closet just yet, we can begin planning the ordeal. This summer, make sure to dress for yourself and look out for these hot new items while we swim our worries away.
